LIFE AFTER CIVIL SERVICE
Civil servants are people employed in the civil service; a government employee. The civil servants are like grease to the development of a country and also they are the very engine that drives the development of a country and the growth of its economy. The civil servants in Nigeria have a minimum of 35 years in service to give his best to the country’s development. Lately this very branch of a nation is now been overlooked and it is crumbling. Pension scheme is what makes life easy after retirement, so it plays a very important role in a nation. Gratuity is a reward, service or payment provided freely without obligation. Civil servants are entitled to pension and gratuity after there years of service but this is now been denied of them in this country. The government should look into the vario
us institutions responsible for this and make amends because the civil service plays a very important role in economic development.
Most retired civil servants are owed up to 3 to 4 years pension and this recent development is not encouraging. The ones still in service , As they have seen as things are going they now develop cold feet towards their job and then start growing a less affair attitude. The government owing pensioners makes life hard for them as they resort to makes earns meet by going into some petty trades like selling food, frying yam , opening a small provision store and so on. In a situation whereby the pensioner has children that are still going to school, it would be very difficult for them to pay up the children's fees and still cater for the family. These children due to lack of funds now drop out of school or cant reach their peak in education and some will now settle for cheaper schools with low standard of teaching( impact knowledge).
In developed countries pension payment are very active and effective and this has helped to improve child morality, Quality education ,good standard of living and it has helped reduce crime rate. Poverty encourages corruption, in this case ,a family at its tender stage that has the parents retired without pension the children will have no other option than to find alternatives. These alternatives can be good ones or evil . Children without good etiquette resort to evil doings and this is not good to the nations development. The various institutions of government responsible should make amends and take care of this issue as the civil servants play a very vital role in a nations development and economic growth.
